Word from President: February

Dear friends!

The beginning of a year is the time for big plans. ATC is no exception and the Officers’ Team developed the Club’s success plan for the next 6 months of January – June 2017. Good thing is that in Toastmasters we not only state goals, but know how to achieve them. Do not stay aside as reaching Club goals is inseparable with individual goals of each member, it is a unique opportunity for each of you to find support and encouragement.

An important thing to mention is that the 2016-2017 Officers’ Team was renewed, which is a sign that toastmasters are not hesitant of taking leadership roles. Three officers Raushan Satybaldiyeva, Anara Badyrlenova and Gulimkhan Abdikalykova have joined the team as VP Membership, VP Education and Treasurer respectively. We are lucky to have such great leaders in our team!

After short holidays in January, ATC resumed its meetings; we listened to 19 unique speeches about everything from saving money to sales techniques, and had a great guest speaker with an amazing story of courage and self-dedication. We did not forget to have fun as well when we had “Что? Где? Когда?” intellectual games organized by Damira Kulakhmetova.

What do we have in store in February is no secret. Along with the scheduled meetings, we are going to have a great orientation session for current and future members, Winter Olympic Games – a fun outdoor winter activity and finally a great celebration of ATC 7th Birthday Party!

Sincerely,

Korlan Bektassova

President of ATC

A Word from President: November

Dear Toastmasters!
Growth and Comfort never coexist.
I have just read this quote and it made me think how true these words were. We are often hesitant to step out of our comfort zones, dreading a failure. However, it is the only way for us to change, develop and grow. In toastmasters’ doing that first step towards change is delivering an icebreaker speech. Some may say that speaking in front of the audience is not big a deal, for some however, public speaking is the greatest fear of all.
The good news is that Toastmasters is not only about public speaking, it is also about taking responsibility and doing things that require a great deal of leadership and creativity. That is where you may find the room for improvement. I am sure each of us can use extra opportunity to sharpen the skills we already have or acquire new ones. The question is: are we always ready to grab that opportunity?
As the president of ATC I have faced many challenges and one of which is that people are hesitant. Having a great potential and willingness, they hesitate: hesitate to step out of their comfort zones, because they are afraid they are not ready. They hesitate to take meeting roles, thinking that they are not experienced enough; hesitate to give speeches, because they think they are boring, hesitate to lead a project, because they just do not know where to begin; hesitate to fill in the vacancy of VP PR in the officers’ team, because they are afraid it’s just too much responsibility.
The truth is that we all do. Did I hesitate when I applied to president’s position? Yes. Nevertheless, I overcame it and now I am getting so much more than I have ever imagined.
My advice to all of the Toastmasters who are struggling with hesitation is: Do not let fear steal what you can get from that experience.
November is going to be a historic month in the Toastmasters’ history in Kazakhstan. Because this is the month when we are going to have a Speech Contest among all six Toastmasters clubs in Kazakhstan, an event that never happened before. And you need to decide whether you want to be a part of this event or just stay aside hesitant.

Sincerely,
Korlan Bektassova

A Word From President: October

Dear Toastmasters!

As the air gets colder and days shorter, the more you want to stay tucked under a warm blanket and cozy in your bed. Luckily, members of ATC are not like everybody else. Toastmasters are not afraid to step out of their comfort zones and challenge themselves.

Every day I hear success stories about former members of Astana Toastmasters Club. However, to call them “former members” would not be accurate since there are no Ex-toastmasters.I believe there is always a special connection between people who relate themselves to toastmasters, whenever and wherever you meet them.

I am glad to see many new faces at ATC meetings – people who want to become a part of a great community and want to learn and grow.

In October we are having a special Homecoming meeting for the members of ATC from different times. They will perform their ice-breaking speeches for the first time in a long time – it is the same atmosphere but different people. It is a definitely must-see-event!

I’d like to welcome our new members of September: Akbota Sabetova, Chandan Sarma, and Zhibek Ussembayeva. I am confident that you would be a great asset to Astana Toastmasters Club.

Special thanks to Bairam Orazov for organizing a Culinary Contest with Wine Tasting. It was an incredible event, where we all learned that cooking can be fun and easy.

There are many more events and activities are ahead. Stay tuned and see you at the meetings.

Sincerely,

Korlan Bektassova

A Word From President: September

Dear Toastmasters!

The beginning of autumn has always been associated with the beginning of school. Though most of us have already passed this stage, I can say that we all feel a little nostalgic when the 1st of September occurs.

However, September is also the time when the days are still long and night are still warm. So don’t wait till September ends, enjoy its every moment.

Astana Toastmasters Club is a great place for anyone to learn new or enhance skills one already has. That is why it attracts many people from different spheres. As my toastmaster experience shows, September is a very busy season for ATC. People return from their summer vacations, full of energy and breath taking stories to share.

Officers’ team of Astana Toastmasters Club has prepared a great schedule of meetings for September: hosting a guest speaker– a managing partner at a well renowned consulting company, demonstration meeting at national holding Zerde, orientation session for freshmen and soon-members-to-be, where everyone can get answers to questions they always wanted to know but were too shy to ask, and many more. Stay tuned.

Sincerely,

Korlan Bektassova

A word from President: July

Dear Toastmaster!

Today is the start of a 2016-2017 officers’ term in Astana Toastmasters Club. Seven people, devoted toastmasters were elected by you to serve for the best interest of the club and its members.

As the president of Astana Toastmasters Club I’m thrilled to begin a new chapter in the life of the club and together with you I’m willing to write a great story of success.

Toastmaster’s path is pretty straightforward; take roles, give speeches, speak up and step up whenever it’s necessary. The more you do – the more you learn. And the main goal of any toastmaster club is in providing the Encouraging environment where this path is possible.

Most of you consider ATC as a family. The place you feel at home. And I want it to keep that way.

Every member should be able to strive for excellence in what he/she is doing, have respect from fellow toastmasters and be ready to serve for the club and the society. But the most important thing, that I’ve learnt from my toastmaster and officer experience, is that nothing can be achieved without a Teamwork. No wonder is that Integrity is one of the toastmasters’ values, which means not only honesty but also unity, being whole.

The first month of the term July will begin with a Country Day dedicated to Spain thanks to the efforts of the previous officers’ team and especially Secretary Indira Kiylybayeva who had been negotiating with the Spanish Embassy for several months. Later we plan to invite another important guest speaker and have once-in-a-year event in Burabay dedicated to the beginning of the new term.

There are many adventures ahead us, and as practice shows there may be some ups and downs along this way but I’m sure that together we will overcome all of them and in 12 months from now we will look back and say: That’s been a wonderful year!

ATC is definitely the place to be.

Sincerely,

KorlanBektassova

P.S. Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success. Henry Ford

A word from President: June

Dear toastmasters!

It is the end of the June of 2016, and also the end of our officers term at Astana Toastmasters Club.

First of all, I would like to thank every single member of the club, who took any role during last 12 months. As we all know, our club is built by those, who were eager to learn by practice, and do it through team work, which is developing every single meeting, when, on one day, you present a speech and recieve effective evaluation, and on another, you are helping speaker to control his/her time or organizing the possibility to present a speech. All role takers are indespensible for our community and I send you my grattitude from the deepest part of my heart.

Secondly, I want to highlight the exceptional work of such officers as Korlan Bektassova and Elmira Baltabayeva. All officers were ready to fullfill their responsibilities and showed great respect to the honor they received, when they were elected. But Korlan and Elmira have showed for 12 months that they are ready to do even more, when necessary. And I am eager to witness what Korlan is preparing for her presidential term. Indira and Damira joined our officer team later in our term, but both took the initiative and proved myself wrong, when I felt that I cannot trust people hundred per cent in fullfilling their responsibilities. Anara, Asset and Daulet taught me a ton on leadership skills and I would like to thank them a lot. Whenever I had doubt, they showed me the alternatives and helped our officer team to see processes in our club from different perspective. I am proud that I was leading such people for past 12 months and, to be honest, I don’t think I deserved such opportunity in first place.

During last year, we reached a lot of goals, what our members aimed for. We had great events and some entertaining speech contests. So many members had fascinating ideas, and so many times I was surprised by creativity and desire people showed during organizing meetings and gatherings. During 2015-2016 term thrice I had personal moments, when I thought that I am failing as a president, four times I was told by members that I should consider resigning and twice I was recieved strong approval from members to continue work our officer team is doing. It proved to me again that ATC is the great platform to learn by practice your leadership skills and understand the basics of project management.

Astana Toastmasters Club is the place to find friends, opportunities and revelations. My last kind request as a President of ATC to our members is to not forget why you decided to join the club in first place and don’t be afraid to changes, don’t be afraid to speak up, when you think something is wrong, but be respectful in discussions and communicate more, talk more, connect more with each other, because, as a former civil enginner, I can say that bridges are very hard to build and so easy to damage.

A word from President: April

Dear toastmasters!
It is April in Astana, but spring is yet to come to us with its full force. Oh, I know, that jokes about long winter in our city is not funny already, but, will you let me be a little mischievous on the pages of this blog, won’t you?

As a matter of fact, April is promising to be a fun month for Astana Toastmasters Club. It is not just that we start a new official period with opportunities for speakers to find those sacred speaker spots, since a lot of our members forget to extend their membership. And it is not that we are planning to have a lot of energetic events such as “ATC Bike Tour” and “ATC RUN”, as well as intellectual games – “What? Where? When?” and “Boarding Games”. It is also a feeling in the air, where you can find rumblings about on who will be in the next officers’ team. People are interested, people are eager to try, people are ready. And it couldn’t make me feel more confident about the future of our club.

April has come. Spring is around the corner. I’m sure our club is at the beginning of the most fun period of its calendar year.
President,
Anuar Zhumabayev

A word from President

Dear blog readers,

This is my first addition to our blog, and I am excited to tell you how I feel about this opportunity to connect with you via this wonderful tool. We believe that regular posts on our website will give you much closer look and feel of our club, than our Facebook or Instagram pages, or even the older form of newsletter. Of course, nothing can compete with actual attendance of our meetings, and I want to invite you one more time, because, if there is a place in Astana to be in – it is Astana Toastmasters Club.

Our club continues to grow and the possibility of splitting the club is looming ahead. Every meeting we have a full house of speakers and every other meeting we have an ice-breaker, the person who is eager to become a member. Topics of our speakers’ presentations cover everything – from sharing travel tips to inspiring by own dramatic experiences, from entertaining speeches with lots of jokes to touching performances about world around us. To give our members more opportunities to speak we hosted an additional meeting at Nazarbayev University (NU) at February, where we listened speeches of members whom we haven’t heard for a while – Kanat Bazaraly, Darmen Amanbayev and Jaksybek Nurtles. In March we will have two more additional meetings at NU.

Astana Toastmasters Club is the place, where you can learn a lot, but only if you want to, only if you are ready to sacrifice the time, step up and look at your fears straight up. Results are sometimes not what we expect, but experience is always fulfilling.

In February we had many social events and memorable meetings. Please, have a look at its highlights, our best performers of past month and highlights of fun activities. Hope this March will also be filled with unforgettable meetings. I should also mention that by the end of March, there will be a membership fee due for the next half-year. See you in future meetings and have a nice first day of spring!

Your President,

Anuar Zhumabayev
