WHAT IS TOASTMASTERS?

The First Toastmaster club not only in Astana but in Kazakhstan and Central Asia devoted to improve public speaking and leadership skills.

Most Toastmasters meetings are comprised of approximately 20 people who meet weekly for an hour or two. Participants practice and learn skills by filling a meeting role, ranging from giving a prepared speech or an impromptu one to serving as timer, evaluator or grammarian. There is no instructor; instead, each speech and meeting is critiqued by a member in a positive manner, focusing on what was done right and what could be improved. Toastmasters is a non-profit organization offering its members a proven and enjoyable way of practicing communication and leadership skills.

Mission: provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater self-confidence and personal growth.

Vision: become the best club in Kazakhstan which provides the best opportunities to improve public speaking, communication and leadership skills in English by creative supportive and friendly environment for members who will grow professionally and personally by actively participating in meetings and events.

Being a Toastmaster involves more than being able to make a formal speech. How we communicate informally at the events is equally important to both our social and professional connections. In fact,  grasping the art of mingling may be a bigger key to our overall success in life than giving speeches. That is why there is always opportunity to mingle informally with other Toastmasters before, after or during a break in the planned events of the evening.

What will you learn at Astana Toastmasters Club?

BODY LANGUAGE

Charismatic people use welcoming body language, such as a smile, gestures and good posture. Their movements are slow and fluid, which makes people feel comfortable.

EYE CONTACT

One of the primary rules in Toastmasters is to “speak to people’s eyes”. It’s useful to remember when considering eye contact that a good, steady meeting of the eyes in conversation denotes a meeting of the minds.

VOCAL VARIETY

Stories often feature characters, each with a unique voice. Tellers develop the ability to make different characters distinct by using vocal variety, inflections and nuances, as well as pitch, volume and accents.
